Ari Cota, P.Eng, M.Arch, is an experienced residential architect and resort developer, as well as a civil engineer. He was formerly the Director of Engineering for Loreto Bay Company, a $500 million mixed-use sustainable project located in Loreto Bay, Baja Mexico. Prior to joining Loreto Bay, Ari was a Senior Engineer for Tri-Cor Engineering of Scottsdale, AZ and responsible for residential servicing upgrades for numerous towns in the southwest. From 2000 to 2003, Ari was the CEO of Asesoria y Financiamiento Int., a professional land development consulting firm specializing in engineering, and construction management. Ari has also been a partner and the Chief Operating Officer of Precoi S.A. de C.V., a Mexican engineering firm. While at Precoi, Ari supervised a staff of approximately 450 people, and oversaw major development projects throughout Mexico, including the construction of six subway stations in Mexico City, as well as transmission lines and substations for the thermo-electric "Rosarito" station, in Baja California. In 2010, Ari came to Victoria, and became the President and Founder of Scala Development Consultants Ltd. Ari is also an active partner in the General Partnership that is developing the Elkington Forest conservation community. His skill and experience in sustainably oriented civil engineering has greatly assisted in the process of identifying the most efficient and eco-system friendly construction processes for multiple development sites on Vancouver Island. Among other duties, Ari has assumed responsibility for the integrated water resource management system that links constructed wetlands for stormwater capture with agricultural irrigation, fire prevention ponds and an ecologically advanced sewage treatment.
The Vice - President of Scala Developments, Doug, has 24 years of experience as a real estate developer, builder and urban planner, most of which have focused on developing highly marketable single-family residential projects. From 1991 to the present, he has been a project manager and urban planner serving public and private clients in BC, Canada, USA, and Mexico. From 1996 to 2003, he was a partner in the construction of the award winning $120M Shoal Point condominium project in Victoria. Shoal Point condominiums are a mixed use complex with 161 high-end residential units, and 50,000 sq ft of marine commercial and office space. From 2003 to 2006, he was the Vice President of the Villages of Loreto Bay, BCS, Mexico, and was responsible for approvals and managing the growth of the first three villages, and the first 900 homes. From 2007 to 2015, he has been completing the Elkington Forest development with 97 home sites, 65,000 square feet of non-residential development space, 60 acres of agricultural land, surrounded by 350 acres of mature forest land.
